The Old Crown is a thatched village pub in Girton, on the north-west edge of Cambridge. Our kitchen cooks Nepalese dishes alongside the Indian favourites and British pub classics many guests come in for, so one table can order momo, a korma and fish & chips at the same time. This guide walks through the menu and what to try first.
Start with the Nepalese dishes
If you have not eaten Nepalese food before, momo are the easiest place to begin: dumplings filled with vegetables or chicken, served with chutney. From there, try Chicken Rum Rum, cooked with timur (Nepalese pepper), Bhutuwa with chicken or lamb, Himali Lamb or Sherpali Chicken, which uses jimbu, a Himalayan herb.
The Times pointed readers to our chicken rum rum and our spicy lasun kukhura khursani. See Nepalese food at The Old Crown for more of the dishes and their menu prices.
Indian favourites too
Our kitchen also cooks the Indian dishes you may already know, from Chicken Korma and Chicken Masala to biryani, with curries in balti, jalfrezi, madras and other styles. They are all on the main menu and the takeaway menu.
British pub classics
Not everyone at the table wants a curry. The pub classics include Fish & Chips, a Beef Burger, a Chicken Burger and a Veg / Vegan Burger, each with chips, plus Chicken Strips with Chips and a choice of wraps. There is a children's menu as well.
Spice levels, allergies and children
Spice levels can be adjusted to suit you: just ask when you order. If you have a food allergy, please tell us before ordering and see our allergen information. Children are welcome until 9pm, with a children's menu and high chairs.
Eat in or take it home
Everything on the takeaway menu can be ordered for collection: call 01223 277217 or order at the bar, then collect from the pub. Every collection order is 10% off.
